2018 Road Dues

Hello Neighbors!

In our last update we had a poll to get your feedback about the road dues for 2018. The results are in and it was split between keeping them at $300 / year and raising them (most going for $350 and several votes for higher amounts).

For 2018 we are keeping the dues at $300, but please plan on $350 for next year. This way there should be no big shock to anyone’s budget and we will be in a better position for maintaining the road in 2019.

We are trying to streamline operations for the road committee and part of that is a gradual move to reduce the burden on the volunteers serving on the committee. We would like to not have to mail out physical envelopes and letters as that takes a lot of time, effort, and costs money in postage and supplies.

So for this year, please consider this newsletter as your reminder to send in your 2018 road dues by May 1st.

2018 Road Dues Payment Information – $300
Please make checks payable to:

Goose Creek Farms Road Committee
PO Box 604
Leesburg, VA 20176

If your bank has online bill-pay feature you can always enter in the above information there and have them send the check on your behalf to save on postage and hassle! Then each year all you have to do is update the dues amount and hit “send”!

New Vice President

Please join me in welcoming Ashley Sawyer to the road committee! She has graciously volunteered to join the road committee as vice president!

Volunteer Needed

We are still actively looking for one more volunteer to join the road committee as Secretary. Trisha Victor has served as Secretary for several years and needs to step back from the position. Please seriously consider joining the team to give Trisha a much deserved break! If you would like to learn more please send us an email at board@goosecreekfarms.xyz

That’s all for now, again if you have any comments or concerns please feel free to email us!

2018 Update

Hello Neighbors!

I’d like to share with you a summary of our 2017 activities, the finances status, and volunteer opportunities.

2017 Activities
In 2017 we did a lot of great work on the road! The road was smoothed several times, millings were spread over the road from start to finish. Long-term improvements included replacing the traffic mirror at the blind curve, and installing a “yield to uphill traffic” sign to help visitors know the “rules of the road” up here!

Finances
In 2017 residents contributed a total of $11,100 of dues. Additionally, many of you contributed in-kind with your labor and other resources. Thankfully we had no plowing expenses or major road work repairs that had to be completed. However, just the basic road maintenance costs added up to a grand total of $9,373. Our current account balance (prior to the road work this week) is $18,682. I’d like to point out that this does not leave much room for handling significant road problems like washouts, culvert replacement, and major regrading that may be required from time to time. More discussion on that later in the newsletter…

Volunteers Needed
We have had a great team of volunteers on the road committee to welcome new neighbors, manage finances, and facilitate road work. But seasons change and people cannot volunteer forever. Lou and Trisha need to step back from the Road Committee this year, and we want to thank them for the time and effort they’ve put toward maintaining the road over the years.

This creates the opportunity for two new volunteers to step forward and help! The open positions are for vice-president and secretary. These positions are VERY part-time, requiring work sporadically throughout the year. You’ll spend less time on this than you do waiting for or behind the school bus on Lime Kiln Rd!

The committee appreciates this is a volunteer situation, so you can be sure that your time, availability, and capabilities will be honored and appreciated. Please send me a note if you would like to learn more about this exciting opportunity to help your neighborhood!

It has been a pleasure to serve as the road committee president this past year!

2018 Dues

Thank you to everyone that contributed to the road fund in 2017. We had record levels of participation from the neighborhood! Unfortunately, as outlined in the previous section, our income and expenditures do not leave much margin for a bad year weather-wise, improvements, emergencies, etc. We wouldn’t want our road to end up like this due to low funds:
Some neighbors have suggested we consider raising the annual contribution that we ask from each household to cover more regular road maintenance, and to have a reserve for the potential issues mentioned above. We will be conducting a poll through the email newsletter (click the link to sign up) to see what the neighborhood would like to contribute for 2018 to make sure the road is kept in good condition. Check back for results later!

Road Work Scheduled 2-15-2018

Hi Neighbors!

These last few weeks of rain have really been brutal on the road. Thankfully we have a work crew coming tomorrow (2-15-2018) to spread new millings and grade out all the pot holes from the entrance to Goose Creek Lane to the top of the main hill.

Please drive with caution and expect delays throughout the day.

High Speed Internet Opportunity

Sugarloaf Network Systems is investigating options of bringing high speed internet to our neighborhood and is requesting interested residents complete the attached form and return to them as soon as possible. This will help them assess what is possible and the costs in bringing alternative internet services to our neighborhood.

The contact information for Sugarloaf Network Systems is included in the form.

Fall Road Work & Highspeed Internet Meeting

Road Work Update

We hope you all have enjoyed the improvements on the road made in the last several months. Most recently the road had new millings put down at many sections throughout the length of the Goose Creek Lane. We have also done lots of work on the main hill and continue that work today (10/16/2017).

You may have noticed that the hill gets very bumpy sometimes after new millings are put down. We ask that everyone drive very slowly up the hill after work has been done to give the millings time to pack down, otherwise they get kicked up into the ruts that we see today. We are going to have a roller come pack it down after today’s work, but your slow driving on the hill this week will make these upgrades last a lot longer!

Another recent improvement was the new Yield sign at the top of the hill. This sign is a friendly reminder that because of the steep hill it is customary to yield to uphill traffic. Please slow as you come to the top of the hill from the uphill side, and pull to the far right in case any cars are coming up the road.

If you have any questions about the upcoming road work please let us know!

2017 Dues

There are unfortunately still many neighbors who have not submitted their 2017 dues. The road costs money to maintain and even though we have a lot of volunteers doing the labor, we still have significant costs for equipment and materials. We would like to remind everyone to please send their 2017 road dues in as soon as possible!

Some neighbors that recently moved to the neighborhood have asked about if they owe for 2017. If you moved part way through 2017, and received a letter, it means the previous owner did not submit 2017 road payment. However, you can also submit a pro-rated dues check based on the months you have lived here or been responsible for dues in 2017 if that makes things easier for your family.

If there are circumstances preventing you from contributing to the road fund this year, please let us know and we’d be happy to work with you on the issues or suggest opportunities you can volunteer in case of financial stress.

Highspeed Internet Opportunity (Sunday 3pm)

This is a friendly reminder in case you missed the physical flier, that we will be having a Highspeed Internet Information Meeting on Sunday, October 22 (THIS SUNDAY) at 3pm.
The location is at the Green house:
21100 Grey Fox Lane, Leesburg, VA 20175

Sugar Loaf Networks has generously agreed to work with our neighborhood and other surrounding homes to find a way to bring highspeed unmetered Internet access to our homes. This could allow your home to have much better Internet service than anything currently available in our area and will significantly increase the property appeal for buyers in our area.

Please plan on attending the meeting to have all your questions answered!

Summer Road Work Update

Road Work Scheduled – Friday 7/21/2017

Good news! We are having major road improvement done from the blind corner to the top of the hill Friday 7/21. The work is planned to start at noon and go until 4pm. Please try to minimize trips on the road during this time as we will have lots of equipment and trucks working on the road during this time. The road will be getting fresh millings and will be regraded.

We have been working for about 4 weeks planning this work on the road, but due to the storms and contractor schedules have faced continual delays.

If you have any questions about the upcoming road work please let us know!

Road Safety and New Mirror

We have received reports from many residents about cars speeding on Goose Creek Lane. Please take a moment to remind your family members, guests, and workers about the speed limit on the road. The speed limit is there for all of our safety due to the limited sight lines and nature of the gravel road.

You may have noticed by now that a new mirror has been installed on the blind corner at the bottom of the hill. Be sure and drive slowly and keep to your side when approaching the blind corner.

One final note, if you notice limbs and branches on your property are growing over the road (including spurs), please take a moment to trim them back. If you see something that needs to be trimmed, check in with your neighbor who owns the property and see if you can just take care of it for them!

Spring Road Work

With the spring rains the road has taken a turn for the worse. We are planning on having road maintenance to fix potholes happen late this week and possibly early next week.

If you would like to coordinate with the contractor doing the road work to help with your spur or driveway please email us immediately and we can get you in touch.

As always please drive slowly over the road after the work has been performed to help ensure the maintenance lasts longer!

New Website

Welcome to our new Goose Creek Farms Volunteer Road Committee website!

We are working to add valuable content and resources to this page for the neighborhood. If you have any ideas or suggestions please send us a note from our contact form.

Thank you!
